Aaron is a professor of atmospheric science at the University of North Dakota. When not researching or teaching about hazardous weather like blizzards and severe storms, he is an avid cyclist who seemingly enjoys the slower forms of bike travel such as singlespeeds, fat bikes, and cargo bikes. Aaron has biked east->west across the Icelandic highlands and has also toured the Westfjords. Aaron lived in this region from 2024-2025 as a US/Iceland Fulbright Scholar and returns as much as possible to both bike and maintain weather instruments. In the US, he has bar-hopped across North Dakota, bikepacked portions of the Arizona and Maah Daah Hey Trails, and finished the Dirty Kanza (UNBOUND Gravel) in 2016. Common across all of these adventures has been a passion for being prepared for mother nature by obsessing over weather forecasts leading up to these trips. For Bikepacking Iceland, he helps forecast our routes with his expert knowledge.
